Welcome to the Dundee Sailing and Rowing Club

Hello, and a warm welcome to the Dundee Sailing and Rowing Club. IMGP3263Established in 1979 as the Dundee Sailing Club and renamed in March 2023 to reflect the growing number of members enjoying coastal rowing, we sail and row from Grassy Beach on the Tay at Broughty Ferry, Dundee. We are a family friendly sailing and rowing club, making sailing and rowing accessible and affordable to the whole community. We are open to new members of all abilities. Members are mainly interested in pleasure sailing and rowing and improving their sailing skills.

We sail a range of traditional dinghies, though mainly the Wayfarer, a versatile and stable boat ideal for beginners and families, but also good for competitive racing and longer cruises.

We also have a St. Ayles rowing skiff. So if you've never been on the Tay but want to see Dundee and Fife from a new perspective, rowing is the ideal way to start. Our experienced club rowers will welcome you with a gentle introduction to rowing.

Guests are welcome to come and try rowing or sailing. Our free rowing taster sessions run all year round, and the sailing tasters session run throughout the sailing season, from April to the end of September. Our taster sessions include the use of our changing facilities, buoyancy aids and waterproofs. Bring warm clothes, old trainers, or similar footwear, as your feet will likely get wet. A change of footwear for after your session is also advisable.

Although our rowing taster sessions are free, you must buy a temporary day membership (sailing voucher) for the sailing taster sessions. Sailing vouchers can be purchased for £25 here

If you want to try rowing or sailing, please fill out the Book a taster session form, and one of the training team will contact you to arrange a suitable time. If you or your family would like to join, the annual fees are £140 (individual) and £200 (family); the £25 of the voucher will count towards the cost of your membership. A range of club boats are available for members' use. A boat park for summer and winter storing of your personal sailing dinghy is included in the membership fee. However, space is limited on a first-come, first-serve basis.

We run regular rowing and rowing training sessions throughout the year and have basic sailing training on a Tuesday evening, local sailing on a Thursday evening and longer cruises mainly on a Sunday, with the odd overnight away sail thrown in for good measure. The summer sailing season typically starts in April and finishes in October. The more seasoned sailors will organise local sailing over winter if the weather is good.
