Learning to sail with DSC |
|
The Club have come up with a plan to make us all better sailors. From now till the end of the season, every Thurday evening will be set aside for training. We'll put down markers in the water and tack/gybe round them, practice man overboard drill, heaving to, picking up a mooring, going along side, capsize drill, reefing on and off the water, etc.

SATURDAY 31st July – SUNDAY 1st August, 2010
Sailing: It is proposed to leave Dundee sailing club at 11.30am on Saturday 31st of July. Low water is at 12.25pm. so this allows for around 1 hour sailing at slack water before the tide turns to assist us. The journey should take 4-5 hours depending on the wind and we should arrive in Perth around 5 pm.
We will stay overnight or you can go home and return to Perth, leaving around 08.00am.on Sunday 1st August.
High water in Perth is about 08.00am and we should be back in Dundee about 14.00 pm.
Some people may wish only to sail one way or to only attend the social event in the evening.
Volunteers will be required to drive the rescue boat, but this can be split into shorter stages, with the rescue crews swapping with sailors to reduce the burden.

A great start to the 2010 season |
|
The lack of wind at breakfasttime was not promising and when the wind rose but brought with it a dense haar, it looked as if the 2010 season was not going to start according to plan. The handful of us who nonetheless went down to Grassy Beach persevered with rigging the boats and by the time we'd finished the haar was gone and the sun was shining. We had a fine 90 minutes of sailing about the river local to Grassy Beach and the season was officially underway.
So now we are looking forward to Tuesday (7pm launch, local sail) and Thursday (ditto), and then Sunday 15th for a sail up river and through the bridges. That'll be a 1pm launch. Bring a picnic. And sun-block!

New Season starts 11th April 2010 |
|
The clocks have switched over to Summer Time, the thermometer has crept above 10C (occasionally) and the dawn chorus has become louder than the alarm clock. All this can only mean one thing - the Dundee Sailing Club season is nearly upon us!
The first launch time of 2010 is 1pm on Sunday 11th April. As usual, be there early to allow a prompt launch. This will be the first time out since last October for most of the boats, so there will be more rigging to be done than usual. The sail itself will be a "local sail".
The full 2010 Season Programme will be available on this web site very soon.
Let's get out there and make the most of this fantastic river!
